I joined over 60,000 people on a march through London, then joined a new organisation: Music Declares Emergency, inspired by a simple message: there is No Music on a Dead Planet.

The Restore Nature Now march was organised by a broad coalition of organisations who disagree on many things, and agree on one big thing. The peaceful demonstration assembled in Park Lane, London and set off to the sound of drumming and singing, along Piccadilly towards Trafalgar Square. From there, the gathering assembled in Parliament Square. The march on 22 June had been organised long before the General Election was called and was a perfectly-timed opportunity for nature lovers, climate campaigners and local groups to demonstrate the unity and passion that is currently absent in other areas of public life.

I met up with many current and former colleagues, marched alongside familiar and unfamiliar organisations. As someone involved in music almost as much as in nature, I was particularly pleased to meet Music Declares Emergency, and to sign up to their campaigns. Music Declares Emergency is a group of artists, music industry professionals and organisations that stand together to declare a climate and ecological emergency and call for an immediate governmental response to protect all life on Earth.
